Salon Worker Who Tested Positive For Covid-19 Charged With Attempted Murder.
Ever since the novel Coronavirus broke out in Wuhan, it’s been the talk in every newsroom. In less than four months since the outbreak, the virus has spread to different nations, threatening to wipe out the earth’s population.The rate of COVID-19 infections is quite alarming, and, therefore, nations are putting stringent measures to combat the spread of the virus. Countries with a large number of infections are already in lock-down in a bid to prevent the virus from getting to a healthy population.
In some countries, non-essential service businesses aren’t allowed to operate, and one risks a lawsuit if they fail to comply. At this time, self-quarantine is a must irrespective of one’s status in society.
Just to highlight how serious it is, a salon owner who tested positive for COVID-19 is currently facing criminal charges after defying quarantine orders. According to the South African police, the salon owner opened his salon and attended a religious gathering at a time when everybody is expected to stay indoors.
The 52-year-old man has been going for trips abroad and upon returning on March 14, he tested positive for the virus. As usual, he was ordered to self-quarantine to prevent the virus from spreading to other people. However, he defied the orders and instead opened his shop, interacted with customers, and attended a religious gathering.
By defying isolation orders, the salon owner has put so many lives at risk. Health professionals are now looking for those people who had contact with him to test them for the virus.
So far, authorities have traced at least 27 people who interacted with him. The patient who is currently hospitalized has been charged with attempted murder and is due in court after recovery.
It’s high time we take this pandemic seriously. While there’s a possibility that one would recover from the deadly virus, we’ve seen many deaths result from it. You can get infected today and die the following day. So, why put your life to risk? They say, better safe than sorry.
