Woman Arrested For Purposely Coughing on $35,000 Worth Of Groceries.
A woman purposely coughed on groceries worth $35000 at a Pennsylvania grocery store. The unnamed woman is facing criminal charges for coughing, which is one of the main ways the novel coronavirus spreads.
Reports have it that she entered the supermarket in Hanover Township and just began to cough on food items like grocery, bakery items, meat and other merchandise in the store. The staff immediately removed her from the store and called the police.
The store had to throw away all the items she came into contact with and called the services of a local health inspector. The shelves have been cleaned, sprayed, and disinfected for fears of the novel coronavirus.
Gerrity Supermarket co-owner Joe Fasula took to Facebook to inform their customers on the matter and the action taken. His post read, “Today was a very challenging day. At 2:20 PM today, I got a call from our Hanover Township store. The manager informed me that a woman, who the police know to be a chronic problem in the community, came into the store and proceeded to purposely cough on our fresh produce, and a small section of our bakery, meat case, and grocery. While there is little doubt this woman was doing it as a very twisted prank, we will not take any chances with the health and well-being of our customers.
We had no choice but to throw out all the products she came in contact with. Working closely with the Hanover Township health inspector, we identified every area that she was in; we disposed of the product and thoroughly cleaned and disinfected everything. Although we have not yet quantified the total loss, we estimate the value to be well over $35,000…….Our incredible team did the best they could to get the woman out of the store as fast as possible. The police were contacted immediately
and the case has been escalated to the District Attorney’s Office. ”
The Department of Justice said that individuals who intentionally spread the coronavirus stand to face terrorism charges. This all comes when the rise in coronavirus cases keep soaring higher. The healthcare system looks overwhelmed as more states confirm new cases of the novel virus.
The coronavirus fears have also frustrated food supply in the United States. And many people fear the shortage may hurt people both infected and those that are negative. In light of this Fasula said, “I am absolutely sick to my stomach about the loss of food.”
